Colored Hockey League Postage Stamp

Category: Community

New Horizons was pleased to join the community in celebrating the February 2020 release of the postage stamp commemorating the Colored Hockey League, an all-black ice hockey league founded in Nova Scotia in 1895. The league featured teams from across Canada’s Maritime provinces. The league, with as many as a dozen teams and over 400 African Canadian players from across Nova Scotia, operated until 1930.  The commemorative stamp is pictured here.
